In fact just about all I know about it is that people like Tom Cruise and John Travolta are said to be members. But, I can see they've had a raw deal by the BBC of late. As such I've written a letter to the BBC about their rather poor standards - yeah I know, no revelation there!
Look at what I stumbled across when surfing the web.
1) Row over Scientology video By John Sweeney
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/6650545.stm
After reading the article, Now curious, I then looked up YouTube to see what happened....
2) John Sweeny - BBC Panorama Reporter at work - 00:41s
BBC Panorama reporter loosing it in the "Museum of Death" in Hollywood

Wow. LOL.
Hooked, I clicked on another link in which he calls his employers at times hideously highbound (
) and some people in it morons....

Wow. How could I have missed all this. This Mr. Seeeny is certainly a character. I wanted more so I clicked on...
4) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OVAeL8AyYeI
LOL...
Let me get this straight. The man was in a play "Oh what a lovely war" at School playing a Sgt. Major and so becasue of this he empathically knows all about the role of real life Sgt Major. He says "there is a point at which you have to get discipline" I'm falling off my chair in stitches!!! Becasue of that play he is mentally scarred and partially scitzophrenic, the 'ol Sgt. Major popping up at unexpected times. Oh Boy, I wish there was a smiley for falling off a chair with laughter. Haaaah ha haaaaa.
Next, I click here...
5) BBC Panorama: "Scientology and Me" 01:21 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0HGM8DSnYh0
Where Sweeny tells this some man that he has to listen to him, beause he is a British subject*. Oh, the fact he seems to be doing this interview in the US doesn't matter to Sweeny. Sweeny also seems to think that becasue there are video cameras present that they will automatically be recording what is discussed.
MAN. Move over reality TV. Lets have Sweeny TV. Lets have it now! Perhaps I should start a petition on the No10 website. Well, maybe not, especially if I want the petition to succeed.
Then I see a link to some kind of defense of Sweeny by a guy called Sandy Smith (yes, thats right, a guy)...

Ooooh. Thats way below the belt I thought, and prompted my letter to the BBC and this blog entry. Here's the letter....
First off, I am concerned that I have to travel through a 'spaghetti path' to get here. Don't make your complaint/s comments section tricky to get to.
Secondly. the meat of my comment/complaint, Re: John Sweeny, Panorama and Scientology.
I must say, I think John Sweeny needs to examine himself before he goes around examining others for Panorama. I don't see much need for me, or anyone else for that matter, to witness his testosterone duels, courtesy of his ‘Sergeant Major’ approach to Journalism. Perhaps he missed the Journalism 101 class, covering the basics such as the principle of 'it's what is said that matters, not how loudly one says it'.
Also a refresher course in 'overseas assignments' would be prove fruitful. For example, 'When abroad, respect the laws of the host country. Be conscious that British law isn't applicable everywhere, and don't impose your values on citizens of that country.
Perhaps Sweeny has tried to embark upon a climbing of the BBC 'moron ladder' towards a higher salary.
Scientology people don't need to discredit Panorama, Sweeny did that well enough himself.
And I think it's rather revealing that the BBC conducts a news interview with Sandy Smith, opening the interview accusing the Church of Scientology of trying to discredit Panorama, only to have Sandy Smith open his attack by blatantly slandering the Scientologists themselves! What a double standard and where was the Scientologist to respond to Smith?
Once again BBC, you show your copious self-righteousness.
If I get a reply I'll post it here...
Going back to Sweeny's 'extracted confession' (link 1 above), I feel that every keystroke he makes must have been like a stroke of the cane. Self flagualting of course, wondering if he's managed to get away with nobody noticing he's calling BBC employees 'morons'. He is very disingenuous in the way he reportas that article. Of course, the man's in fear that he's shouted himself out of a job; he has to go on the attack. He mentions torture chambers as if the Scientology people approve of this technique, but my reading of it is that they are equating psychology to physical (and mental) torture, exemplified by the exhibition that most of us could easily see and understand.
Oh well Sweeny... Off you go.
* Re: British 'subjects': Speek for yourself Sweeny. I utterly reject being Lizzies 'subject' you self-enslaving fool.
